News of how your support helps people with cancer

In the past year, your support has made a huge difference to the lives of cancer patients throughout the UK. For them, it’s the toughest of times, the emotional rollercoaster of a diagnosis followed by the physical discomfort of treatment. You’ve been there for them – in so many ways. Here’s more on how your support has made an impact.

Andy’s story

Thanks to your generosity, we are able to offer Cancer Coach support groups free of charge. Andy is just one of the people to benefit.

Karen’s story

Thanks to your support our Cancer Coach courses are available to anyone who’s completed their cancer treatment – including Karen.

Linus' story

You’re helping us to provide Cancer Training to people like Linus who has lived experience of cancer, so he can help other cancer patients too.

Meet Sharron

For people with cancer your support can be quite literally transformative. It certainly was for Sharron.

Now aged 49, Sharron, a mental health trainer from Buckinghamshire, first discovered a lump in her right breast in December 2023.

A series of mammograms, a biopsy and MRI confirmed the worst news – Sharron had three tumours in her breast.

She was soon on chemotherapy, an ongoing regime that has so far left her without hair or eyebrows, as well as a number of other side effects.

In the midst of treatment, Sharron received one of our Cancer Kits.

She describes its arrival as ‘a complete game changer’. The Kit was, in her words, ‘packed with stuff you actually need’.

But in addition to all the soothing, distracting and useful items, she was incredibly grateful because the Kit showed her that she wasn’t fighting alone. Other people cared, which was such a powerful message to receive.

I hope you can see how your generosity makes a difference to the lives of so many adults and children with cancer.

If you can, please consider setting up a regular gift today, and help us support even more cancer patients, wherever they are on their treatment journey.

As Sharron’s story demonstrates, the arrival of a Kit can make all the difference to a patient’s morale. Thanks to your support, we’ve already distributed 2,760 in the first half of 2024:

  • 1,254 Chemo Kits

  • 604 Kids Kits

  • 596 Cancer Kits

  • 304 Comfort Kits

  • Workplace Cancer Support Training. Our experience has shown that many employees feel ill-equipped to have conversations about cancer in the workplace. We know that a basic knowledge of cancer and its treatments can be helpful in being able to communicate effectively with colleagues and customers affected by cancer. We have developed a series of training workshops and e-learning modules to give organisations the information, tools and confidence they need to provide emotional support in the workplace.
