Omarni’s update

Omarni was just a year old when he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in April 2018. His mum Naomi had become increasingly alarmed by his enlarged lymph nodes, a cold from which he took a long time to recover, and a rash that spread to his neck and chest. In hospital, her worst fears were confirmed.

Omarni began chemotherapy and steroid treatment immediately. It has been a rollercoaster journey ever since. An infection on his brain left him in hospital for six months, with his chemotherapy on hold. He also suffered a seizure and later, while in hospital, he slipped in the shower, leaving him with a crack on his skull and a bleed on the brain.

By the end of 2020, it was clear that the treatment had not worked as effectively as hoped, and after a match was found in the US, Omarni received a stem cell transplant.

Following a period of recovery, Omarni is doing really well. He has increased his hours at school, is trying new foods and has had his Hickman line removed. It’s now almost a year since his transplant and the future is looking so much more positive.
