Grace's Story
Grace was just seven years old when she was diagnosed with leukaemia in November 2018. It was during treatment last year that a Kids’ Kit made such a difference to Grace, bringing joy and comfort into her life when she needed it the most.
This summer she finally began long-term maintenance treatment and in June, had her chest line taken out. Grace could finally have a proper bath and shower. Even better, she could go swimming again in the pool in her garden. Grace is such a little water baby and it was the thing she had missed the most during treatment. So, as soon as her stitches had dissolved, she was straight back in the pool!
The main treatment may be over, but Grace still needs daily oral chemo, weekly stronger chemo and monthly IV chemo with a week of steroids. She also has a lumbar puncture every three months under general anaesthesia. In January 2021, treatment will finally end.
Drawing and making things has been a really important part of Grace’s recovery, a place she can retreat to. As you can see, she is quite the artist! With just five more months of treatment to go, she can’t wait to ring the end-of-treatment bell in January 2021!
