Cancer Support UK is taking part in the UK’s biggest match funding campaign with the Big Give. We need your help to raise vital funds to grow our Cancer Coach telephone support programme.
Those of you who have received one of our lovely Cancer, Chemo or Kids’ kits, will know that we are a very small charity that punches above our weight in making the lives of cancer patients a bit better.
The reality however is that our kits and our other services can only continue if we can secure funding to keep them going.
That is why we are really excited to tell you about a new opportunity to really help us grow our support, where every donation could be worth more than four times its original value.
This year, Cancer Support UK is applying to take part in the Christmas Challenge, the UK’s biggest online match funding campaign which last year raised over £11.3 million for over 500 participating charities.
We’re hoping to raise vital funds towards our Cancer Coach Telephone support groups project and would like to invite you to support us as a Pledger.
Unmet emotional needs
The project is critical to our work, helping us to provide practical and emotional support for people living with cancer, both during and after the treatment period. The Cancer Coach project is at the heart of what we do and is an area which is woefully under-resourced, which means that sadly, more than 3 in 4 cancer patients (78%) report having unmet emotional needs and over half (53%) surveyed six months after treatment say that they have moderate to severe unmet needs like depression or anxiety.
We are aiming to raise at least £1,000 in Pledge Promises from our supporters which will potentially unlock further match funds from a Champion funder secured by the Big Give, if our application is successful. Together, these funds form our matching pot and are used to double online donations from the public when the campaign is live in late November.
