Omarni’s Story

Omarni was just a year old when he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in April 2018. His mum Naomi had become increasingly alarmed by his enlarged lymph nodes, a cold from which he took a long time to recover, and a rash that spread to his neck and chest. In hospital, her worst fears were confirmed.

Omarni began chemotherapy and steroid treatment immediately. It has been a rollercoaster journey ever since. An infection on his brain left him in hospital for six months, with his chemotherapy on hold. He also suffered a seizure and later, while in hospital, he slipped in the shower, leaving him with a crack on his skull and a bleed on the brain.

By the end of 2020, it was clear that the treatment had not worked as effectively as hoped, and after a match was found in the US, Omarni received a stem cell transplant.

Omarni is, thankfully, starting the journey to recovery. But sadly there are still thousands of children in hospital. Children who will be going through treatment and procedures when they should be home with their family at this time of year. We want to reach out to 1,000 of them in the run-up to Christmas, and we need your help.

If you can, send a child like Omarni a warm Cuddle for Christmas.

FAQs

How will my £10 gift help children with cancer?

Your donation will help us to send 1,000 teddies to children receiving treatment for cancer in hospitals across the UK this Christmas. We are aiming to deliver the teds in mid December, just in time for Christmas.

Where will you send the teddies to?

We have reached out to children’s cancer wards and hospices across the UK. With your help we can send out 1,000 teddies in time to provide a Christmas Cuddle.

I need cancer support, can you help me?

Of course. Please take a look at our Cancer Kits and Cancer Coach. These services are available free of charge to cancer patients and people who have completed their treatment.

I’d like to set up a regular gift to help even more children and adults in 2023

Thank you so much! You can set up a monthly gift here. We really appreciate our donors’ support as we are only a small charity and we do not receive any government support.

What if you raise more money than you need?

Our Cuddles for Christmas campaign aims to deliver 1,000 warmable teddies to children being treated for cancer in hospital this Christmas. If we’re lucky enough to raise more money than we need, any extra will be used to help fill cancer kits to send out to cancer patients. We receive no government support and our services are needed more than ever since the COVID-19 pandemic. Thank you.
